"Hey! Hey [name]!" The five-year-old orphan glanced up quietly.

"What is it Mei-Mei?" She whispered, [eye color] dulled by hunger and exhaustion. Being an orphan had exhausted her and Mei-Mei, a fellow orphan, was her only friend.

"There's gypsies in the town! Perhaps we can follow them and get homes of our own!" [Name] raised an eyebrow.

"You sure about that Mei-Mei?" She asked. Mei-Mei grabbed her arm and nodded, running off to a small meadow just outside the city they lived in. A cart stood, draped with bright and fancy cloth. Sitting on the ground, playing the fiddle, was a young man barely older then twenty three at most. He was smiling, a small fang poking out of his mouth. He wore all black, except his little tophat that sat lopsided on his head which had three small ribbons on it: blue, red, and yellow.  Many children gathered around him, sitting around the music he played. [Name] and Mei-Mei stood on the edges of the crowd of children.

"Aw, how adorable you lot are." He cooed.

"Sebastian, if you take them all in, me and Lukas will object." Came a growl from the shadows. Previously hidden, a small bit of blond hair peeked from under a cloak.

"Oh I won't do that. Pinkie Promise!"

"The last time you did that was with a trio of cats. They're still with us." A soft voice spoke, although it's source was nowhere to be found. Sebastien shrugged and played a more upbeat tune, singing some song in Russian about a brew and time shenanigans.

...

Night fell upon the wagon. The children had gone home for the night. A gentle laughter wafted in the air from the wagon as a single light shone weakly.

"What a good pay we got today. It's a pity we can't help them."

"What we do temporarily eases their fears, Sebastien. That's all we can do."

"I know Lukas, I know." He muttered. "I just want to help them get a better life somehow."

"We can't do that Sebastien. Children are expensive to care for." Lukas paused with a sigh. "I'm going to bed. I will see you in the morning." Sebastien nodded as he turned in for the night. The blond sighed and stood. Time to move, as their kind typically did. Unbeknownst to them, [name] and Mei-Mei sneaked into the wagon and hid under a bed, Sebastien's bed to be precise. That was...until a mew caused a sneeze.

"Bless you."

"Who?"

"You sneezed." Sebastien gave him a look.

"No I didn't."

"Then who did?" Sebastien got up and peered his head out the window.

"Hey Artie! We heard a sneeze. Did you do it?"

"No. It's too cold for that." Came a growl-like response from Arthur, nicknamed 'Artie'.

"Then who did it?" Lukas asked, looking under the beds. He quickly found his answer. "Sebastien, did you adopt any kids back there?"

"No...why?"

"Because I found two little girls under your bed." Sebastien ran to his bed, looking into the terrified eyes of the two young girls. "We're too far from the town to get them back home."

"We don't have a home." Mei-Mei said quietly. "We're orphans. The orphanage that we once belonged to was horrid to us so we ran."

"So you decided to hide in our cart?" Mei-Mei nodded. Lukas sighed and sat down. "What do we do with you two?"

"I say keep them!" Sebastien said excitedly. Lukas gave him a look.

"I say no." Arthur spat from outside. Lukas looked at Sebastien for a few minutes, carefully thinking about his decision.

"I say...they stay." Arthur groaned at Lukas's decision.

"If you two start complaining, I'll say 'I warned you'." He growled. Sebastian sighed.

"Party-pooper."

...

Fifteen years later...

"Beautiful job girls!" Sebastian cackled gleefully, although not from malice. Mei-Mei giggled.

"Thank you papa!" She said, kissing his cheek. Sebastian petted her gently and took a glance at to the more quiet [name]. "You okay kiddo?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. I was thinking..."

"What?"

"Well...I'm twenty now. My sister's twenty-one. I'm just thinking about marriage..." She sighed. The Romanian winced but nodded in understanding.

"Figures. You'd be thinking about that. We're going to meet another caravan soon. Maybe one of the boys parents will take a liking to you." Sebastien sighed. "We've been on the road so much as gypsies that we haven't even thought of marriage." [Name] shrugged as she followed her father inside the wagon. He took out a small box and lifted the lid, revealing a ring with a rose quartz in the center, among other rarities.

"Where did they come from?" Sebastien winced but avoided the question. He took the rose quartz ring and gave it to her.

"Just take this ring for good luck, okay?" He said simply, closing the box and putting it away.

...

"Ah! Arthur! It's been forever hasn't it?" Came a cheerful greeting. They met the caravan of Vargas-Beilschimidt, led by Woodrow Beilschimidt and Romulus Vargas. "Where's the rest of the Kirklands?"

"They went on their separate ways." Arthur growled, brushing Romulus's arm off his shoulder. Romulus sighed. "I believe your letter asked for us to travel with you?"

"Of course! The more the merrier!" Arthur sighed. "I see you have two new faces with you! The last I saw you, you were just traveling with your friends Lukas and Sebastien."

"They're...they're Sebastien's adopted girls."

"Really?" Romulus's eyes widened before they turned into a wide smile. "Well, they're pretty ragazzas!" Arthur's eyes darkened. Even if he didn't have any particular affection for the two girls, he was still protective of them. Romulus took the hint and took Arthur aside, talking with him. Sebastien and Lukas poked their heads out of the window.

"We're here!" Sebastien said, calling Mei-Mei and [name]. Mei-Mei's head shot out the window, eyes wide. [Name] carefully stepped out, curious but cautious. Mei-Mei, being her ever-so-excited self, ran right out.

"Can you believe our luck? Look at all these new faces!" She said. [Name] rolled her eyes.

"Be careful Mei-Mei. We don't know these people."

"That's why we talk to them!" [Name] facepalmed. "Come on!" She said and quickly ran off, gaining a conversation to a certain albino. [Name] found herself dragged into the issues of a whiny Italian and his grumpy elder brother. Sebastien watched, suddenly feeling nostalgic. His mind remembered that one song in Russian and he absentmindedly began to hum the tune.

Same source, two entirely different songs. That should be allowed, right?
I might use the song in a song-fic but this is a contest entry for :iconheta-therapy: 's September contest. If for any reason this isn't allowed, I apologize. (The rules didn't quite specify if other songs could be used aside from the one in the title.)
Oh, and you married Feliciano. Mei-Mei (Taiwan) married Gilbert and Woodrow is Germania.
