"Big Brother! Big Brother!" Leon glanced up from his carving to see you running to him.
"Ah, [name]. What is it?" He asked, returning to his carving yet keeping his eyes on you.
"Big Brother, when is Uncle Yao coming?" Ah yes, him. [Name] always had a fondness for Yao.
"I don't know." He finished the carving, revealing a small expertly carved bird. Leon wasn't known for his woodcarving skill but he had been taking lessons. They definitely paid off. He handed the small bird over to her. She gasped as her fingers brushed over the bird in her hand.
"Thank you big brother!" She said cheerfully, pocketing the bird and running off to play. Leon smiled as he set to carve a small wooden flute.
"Len! Rin! Don't go too far you silly kitties!" [Name] giggled as she went after the two black cats. They were running to the bedroom for some reason. They jumped onto the bed and burrowed under the covers. She followed giddily, her toy rabbit bouncing her in hand. When she lifted the blanket to see two pairs of greenish blue eyes gazing at her.
Then everything began to shake.
[Name] screamed as she burrowed under the covers, holding her toy rabbit tightly.
"BIG BROTHER!!! BIG BROTHER!!!" She screamed. Her screams were silenced by a creaking noise before it all became black.
"A seven point nine earthquake in Hong Kong's capital has taken over a hundred lives and may be rising. Crews are now trying to move rubble out of the way to find other victims of the earthquake." The words repeated in Leon's head as he ran to his home where little [name] resided. His sister, Mei-Mei, was supposed to take care of her today. She never came for some reason and didn't tell him. He was scared, scared that she might be dead. When he finally arrived at the house, he was exhausted. The roof had collapsed in, it was unlikely anybody had survived. Pushing aside crews, he dug into the rubble in desperation.
"Sir, please leave!" Someone laid a hand onto his shoulder but he whacked it away. Other citizens began to randomly join in the search for Leon's little sister. Perhaps it was out of the sympathy for him. Perhaps it was how well-liked [name] was in comparison with her usually silent elder brother. When the rubble was pulled aside, finally they found her. Bruised, perhaps with a few broken bones, but breathing very faintly. Carefully, Leon picked her up and carried her away to the nearest hospital. In her lap was the toy bunny.
"Meow?" He turned, seeing Rin and Len following him. With a shrug, he continued to walk. He hoped that, perhaps, she could be saved.
The noise of the outside, with nurses and doctors running to care for patients from the earthquake, was nothing compared to the heart monitor. Leon sat on the bed, watching carefully on the progress of his little sister. A sort of fear paralyzed him in some way. A fear that, if he dared to take his eyes off her for a mere moment, she would die. Slowly, her eyes opened.
"B-Big brother? Where am I? Am I in heaven?" He breathed out a sigh of relief.
"No, you're alive. And I am too." He murmured gently, kissing her forehead. "I was so scared...so frightened that you would die." He breathed. [Name]'s eyes widened as she felt something drip onto her arm.
"Big Brother? Are you crying?" She asked. He pulled away, wiping his eyes.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm just so happy...that you're alive after all this."
"That's okay Big Brother! We all have to cry sometimes, right?" She asked. He chuckled.
"Yeah...sometimes..." She yawned.
"Goodnight Big Brother..." She whispered, falling asleep.
"Goodnight little bird." He murmured, gently kissing her forehead. Everything was going to be alright after all...
